Gradients

A gradient runs from the thread you're drawing with to the end thread. Each shade in between becomes the closest DMC thread in the catalog. With Gradient brush, the shade changes the farther you drag from where you started. With Gradient fill, it changes from one dragged corner to the other. Check the shades against real floss before you stitch.

Chart

Click or drag on the chart to draw or mark stitches. You can also click the chart and use the arrow keys, then press Space.

Use the chart controls and keyboard to draw and track stitches.

Find
Selection

In Track mode, completed squares turn gray. On touch screens, scroll outside the chart.

Your chart is saved in this browser. Clearing browser data deletes it, so download a backup first.

Project, size and attribution

Resizing keeps the top-left corner of your chart where it is. If the new size cuts off squares, you'll be asked first, and you can undo it. A chart imported with special stitches or extra data can't be resized here, because those parts would end up in the wrong place.

Threads and symbols

Pick a thread in the Thread menu before you edit it. Catalog colors come from Stitchen's DMC table, and a custom thread keeps the code you give it. Screen colors are approximate, so compare them with your real floss.

Replacing a thread moves its full crosses, and any you've marked complete, to the other thread. Hidden layers change too. The old thread stays in the list, and imported special stitches aren't touched.

A blend gets one symbol, and you mark it complete as one thread. Its thread code lists both threads, and project backups and OXS downloads both keep the recipe.

Turn an image into a chart

Turn your own artwork or photo into a new chart. The conversion happens on this device, and you see a preview before anything is created. It can't read the symbols on a photographed or scanned pattern page.

Crop trims a percentage off each edge of the original image before it's rotated and fitted. You can also lay the image over your chart as a source overlay. It's optional, stays on this device and never prints.

Text, colorways and review

Type your text and click Prepare text for placement. Then click the chart where the top-left corner of the text should go. Tick Highlight isolated stitches to outline every stitch that has no same-color neighbor above, below or beside it. A colorway saves the current thread colors so you can try others and switch back. Applying one changes colors only; your stitches and progress stay put.

Reduce small scattered stitches

The shade merge range compares screen colors. At 0, only identical colors merge. Higher numbers merge shades that are further apart, and the thread used more often wins. A small group takes the color of the neighbor that touches it most; set Small groups up to 0 to leave them alone. Tick Remove small groups on empty fabric to delete groups that touch no other color. Nothing changes until you apply the preview, and imported special stitches stay as they are.

Paste a chart or backup

Click Validate without opening to see what the designer would open, without saving anything. Click Open pasted project to add it as a new project; your other projects stay as they are. Nothing is uploaded. For a fuller report, use the OXS checker.
